The Duke Eye Center operates a Remote Diagnosis Screening van that provides diabetic retinal eye exams. The mobile testing center has provided exams across the Triangle to ensure that patients have a convenient, easy option for this important annual screening.
Quick facts about the Remote Diagnosis Screening van:
- Exams are free! There is no charge to the patient.
- Appointments only take a few minutes, and no more than 15 minutes is needed for each patient.
- This is not a full eye exam, so patients will not see an eye doctor.
- Dilation is not required. A retinal camera takes a photo of the eye, and the image is reviewed by an ophthalmologist from the Duke Eye Center.
- If any abnormality is seen in the image, the patient will be contacted by the Duke Eye Center for follow-up.
- Pre-scheduling of appointments is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.
